How often should I visit my dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends seeing your dentist at least twice a year. Depending on your dental condition and history, you may need to see your dentist even more frequently. These biannual examinations and cleanings help prevent teeth decay and gum disease by catching the earliest warning signs or giving your dentist the opportunity to nip bad oral hygiene habits or the earliest stages of cavities in the bud.

How can I care for my teeth at home?
Caring for your teeth at home is a two-step daily process. First, brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes each time. This removes the brunt of bacteria and plaque from your teeth and gives you a good foundation to go off of. Floss between each tooth at least once a day to ensure you remove the bacteria and plaque from the tight and narrow areas of the mouth where your toothbrush’s bristles simply cannot reach. In addition to flossing between the teeth, be sure to move the floss all the way up the tooth and underneath the gum and do not forget the back side of your last molars.

Dental Examinations and Cleanings in Westport, MA
Dental examinations give your dentist the chance to treat the earliest stages of teeth decay while routine professional cleanings ensure that no plaque or tartar remains on your teeth. While you can remove plaque by brushing and flossing regularly, only a professional dental cleaning can remove tartar deposits from the teeth.
